Geobotanist

Juru is looking for a Geobotanist to join the Biodiversity Team support biodiversity surveys and habitat assessments across infrastructure projects. The role focuses on vegetation and habitat evaluations in line with national regulations and international biodiversity standards (IUCN, IFC PS6, EBRD PR6).

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct habitat assessments in accordance with IUCN habitat classification system and international biodiversity standards (IUCN, IFC PS6, EBRD PR6);
• Perform habitat quality scoring using a defined scoring matrix, taking into account vegetation structure, species diversity, disturbance level, regeneration status, and invasive species presence;
• Assess habitat carrying capacity and foraging suitability for priority animal species;
• Collaborate closely with fauna experts;
• Contribute to field protocols and study designs, including: 1) stratified sampling and plot/transect selection; 2) rapid habitat quality assessment tools; 3) GIS-based habitat suitability mapping (desirable but not mandatory).

Key requirements:

• Degree in Geobotany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field;
• Minimum 3 years of field experience in habitat classification and vegetation assessments. Experience in habitat restoration is a strong advantage;
• Strong knowledge of Central Asian dryland ecosystems, steppe and desert vegetation types;
• Proficiency in plant species identification, particularly dominant and indicator species relevant to target fauna;
• Fluency in ArcGIS or QGIS for habitat mapping, data integration, and analysis;
• Good English proficiency required for reporting and coordination.
